Body Anthropometric Study of Malaysian Security Personnel

The case study presents a collection of anthropometric data obtained from security agency personnel who worked at the National Defence University of Malaysia in 2011. The study involved 450 male respondents ranging from 21 to 57 years old. Anthropometric dimensions of chest, shoulder, waist, hip, and neck circumferences were measured, and one-way ANOVA was performed to determine significant difference for selected parameters by age group. Statistical results showed a significant correlation between body measurements (chest, waist, hip, and neck circumferences) and age group.

Evaluation Method of Frangible Bullets Frangibility

The article deals with the quantification of frangibility of the frangible bullets, which has high practical significance in evaluating the capability of a bullet to fragment upon impact on the target or obstacle and which allows comparison between the different types of the frangible bullets. In this article new original evaluation method of frangibility of frangible pistol bullets when hitting to the defined target is presented.

Protection of Radio Electronic Devices and Electric Circuits from External Electromagnetic Influence

Based on the existing methodologies of evaluating the effect of powerful electromagnetic pulse on susceptible objects, the following methodology has been developed. The main goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of protection of radio electronic devices and electric circuit equipment. Usually these devices and equipment are part of an industrial facility. Thus, to evaluate the effectiveness of protection, an Electromagnetic Influence (EMI) safety factor was taken as a system elements stability indicator, where the sustainability of the system is characterized by a minimal number of its elements. Sustainability of the system is estimated in stages; the algorithm implementation methodology is introduced with mathematical and physical expressions. These expressions define the degree of EMI energy neutralization that penetrates through intakes in the screens.

Optimization of Defence Ability of Defence Structures by Using Monte Carlo Simulation

The article is focused on the calculation of defence structures’ survival probability based on the Monte Carlo method. Besides, the blast resistance of defence structures is optimized due to the protection and expense requirements. The article also reviews properties of defence structures, characteristics of projectiles, and factors influencing on the structure’s survival ability. To solve the problem, the computer simulation program has been developed and used for evaluating and optimizing the issue in various battle scenarios.

A Quantitative Method of Comparative Assessment of Primers Ignition Performances

The ignition performances of percussion primers for small calibre ammunition are determined using a new experimental setup, with pressure transducers and special designed combustion chambers. The method enables a comparison of new designed primers with consecrated models by relative ignition capacity. Results show that ballistic performances of primers are in direct relationship with the gradient pressure vs. rise time and also with the maximum pressure developed inside the cartridge chamber.

Fire and False Fire Alarm Causes in Military Jet Aircraft of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic

The article deals with the causes of fires and false fire alarms in military jet fighter, fighter-trainer and trainer aircraft in service of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in 1948-2015. It presents a list of fire and false fire alarm causes by aircraft types on a timeline as well as historical and technical contexts, facts and development trends of these causes. Importantly, the role of the human factor in the causes of fire and false fire alarm emergency occurrences is also analyzed. The study is accompanied by a unique overview of reference and information sources remaining accessible on the subject.

Organisational Aspects of Air Show Safety and Security

Every year, there are a dozen or so air shows organised in Poland. Their character varies from flying club shows, through air picnics, which are getting more and more popular, to big civil-military international air shows. Their organisation demands the involvement of many institutions and a close cooperation of them at every level, of the event planning and execution, as well as ensuring safety by maintaining operational readiness, of the resources engaged in the show. The character of the air show leads us to a conclusion that the whole security system (ensuring air and ground safety) needs to be organised in such a way that it will meet high safety standards at all stages of the process. The aim of this work is to develop a coherent concept of planning, organisation and implementation of an air show with all necessary safety regulations, as well as taking into consideration possible safety hazards and risks which may occur. To solve this problem, the author tries to answer the following question: What kind of factors needs to be taken into consideration during the air show preparation in order to maintain its required level of safety and security?

Wearable Systems and Methods for Monitoring Psychological and Physical Condition of Soldiers

From the second half of the 1990s, thanks to more affordable and more powerful information technology and electronical systems for recording based on miniaturized sensors, we can observe a more intensive development of a method of data analysis and a system that monitors the physical and psychological conditions of soldiers. Systems for measuring and evaluation methods of physical and medical data for the diagnostics of physical and psychological state have significantly spread, especially in clinical practice. This study, however, examines the current technologies and usage of the wearable monitoring systems in military field. The result of this study is not only the not-yet published summary of the current state, but also the proposed possibilities of usage and recommendation of specific systems, their sensors and system methods in the military. Thus, the article can serve as a guide for choosing suitable and affordable electronical wearable systems and methods of quantitative evaluation of physical and psychological conditions of people in the military.

Robust Autopilot Design and Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation for Air to Air Guided Missile

This paper proposed a robust autopilot design for air to air guided missile and a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation which is based on the derived missile-control transfer functions and the 6DOF simulation model. The introduced autopilot is implemented within the 6DOF simulation to check its robustness against non-modeled dynamics and nonlinearities. The nonlinear 6DOF equations of motions are solved together to obtain the pitch and yaw transfer functions. The missile equations are described in the form of modules programmed within the C++ environments to form the baseline for subsequent design and analysis. Furthermore, a comparison between both our previous work, i.e. classical and robust autopilot, are justified via HIL simulation. The simulation results demonstrated the robustness capability in presence disturbance and noise.

Influence of Critical Flow in the Differentially Pumped Chamber AQUASEM

The article deals with the effect of the critical flow, which is examined at pumping of the differential pumping chamber of the Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM). The article compares the state of the flow in the area of pumped chamber at pressure ratio on the apertures when the critical flow occurs and its advantages in design of the chambers versus the flow without the clogging the nozzle. Problematics were solved using finite volume method by Ansys Fluent system.
